COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- USA Hockey InLine, the official inline hockey program of USA Hockey, announced today that Chelsi Wells (Lakewood, Colo.) has been selected to receive a $1,000 college scholarship from USA Hockey InLine’s 2008-2009 College Scholarship Program. The program was created in an effort to help qualified high school inline hockey players fund their college education.
Chelsi recently graduated from Lakewood High School in Lakewood, Colo. While attending Lakewood High School, Chelsi not only excelled in hockey, but in school as well, taking on a leadership roll by being a part in the Jefferson County Outdoor Lab being a counselor for 6th graders. At the rink, she has played, coached and been a referee for inline hockey over the years. Chelsi plans on attending Colorado State University in the fall.
“We’re pleased to assist Chelsi through our college scholarship program,” said Jeremy Kennedy (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Manager of USA Hockey InLine. “We wish her all the best as she begins her collegiate career.”
Chelsi was chosen to receive the college scholarships by the USA Hockey InLine Scholarship Selection Committee. The decision is based on their participation in inline hockey, academic success, references and essays explaining how athletics relate to education.
In order to be eligible for the scholarship, high school seniors were required to be a member of USA Hockey InLine and have a current grade-point average of 2.7 or above.
USA Hockey InLine’s mission is to promote the growth of the sport of inline hockey in America and provide the best possible experience for all participants. |
